La Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, CVNE, was founded in Haro in 1879. Since then and to the present day, it has been very clear in its philosophy as a wine business, which can be summarised in four major principles which they have made their own: Tradition, Quality, Ubiquity, and Innovation.
It is still currently under the control of direct descendants of the founding family (fifth generation) and has been listed on the Stock Exchangein 1997. Torreal is the second largest shareholder with a 16% stake.
La Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, S.A, is present in the Rioja region with three wineries:
Headquarters of Grupo Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España, S.A, located in Rioja Alta, since 1879. Production and ageing of the wines: Cune, Imperial, Real de Asúa, Monopole and Corona.
Opened in 2004. A home was finally found in Rioja Alavesa for a family of wines, Viña Real, cultivated and fermented in this subarea since the 1940’s, though bottled and aged at CVNE Haro.
Viñedos del Contino
Founded in 1973. Comprehensive grape-growing and winemaking concern, located in an old stately home surrounded by vineyards. A "Château" in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. Production and ageing of the Contino range: Graciano and Viña del Olivo monovariety.
